The session will highlight the history of the Volunteers of America
of MN Deaf and Hard
of Hearing Mental Health Program, celebrating its 20th year of
supporting youth and
families. Presenters will delve into key aspects of youth and
family mental health,
shedding light on the role of interpreters in delivering these
essential services. They'll
examine critical considerations interpreters need to understand
when working with
mental health providers serving youth and families.
Additionally, presenters will discuss cross-cultural service
delivery, including interpreting
in multilingual contexts involving ASL combined with languages like
Spanish, Somali,
and Karen. They will address working in varied geographical
settings—urban, suburban,
and rural—as well as the dynamics of providing services remotely
via telehealth.
